UW Bothell and UW Tacoma are separate campuses of the University of Washington system. They are not the same as the (original) University of Washington, located in Seattle. The difference between the schools is similar to those of the California system, which has several different campuses (UCBerkeley, UCDavis, UCLA, UC Santa Barbara, etc.) My point is, that earning a degree from different campuses deservedly carries a different level of prestige, since getting in to a competitive program at the UW Seattle is very different than just declaring a major at the UW Tacoma or Bothell, let alone the difficulty of admissions difference. With these differences, why doesn't the UW Tacoma embrace its own identity and pick its own mascot instead of biting off the UW Seattle and its huskies? UC Berkeley has the golden bears. UC Merced has the bobcat. Nobody gets the two schools confused! And nobody at UC Merced gets away with an affiliation with Berkeley! ;)... Read More »
